Bike Touring Stoke Fest! - Bikepacking South America w/ Jace Fuller
I first met Jace Fuller [IG fuller.jace] in Huarez, Peru. Our second time meeting was 6,373.28 mi away in Coldfoot, Alaska a census designated place with a booming population of 10. This is as I pedal south to reach Central America, Jace made sure I had a warm/dry place to rest for the night and that I was well fed, gracias amigo! I sprung this interview on him after having a ton of a great conversation while I demolished the buffet at the Coldfoot Cafe and realized we could give some some personal insight into what touring was like at the beginning of the pandemic. We also hear some fun stories from Jace to spread the touring stoke and he gets me excited for Mexico and Central America! Basically we just rant about cycle touring and spread stoke! 🤟🍻🚲

Live Bikepacking Update (#1) From the Dalton highway! - Alaskan Arctic (Cycling the Americas)

Not long into my first full day I was stopped by some road construction along the Dalton Haul Road. They informed me I would have to load my bicycle onto a truck for the next 40 miles. After a few hours of waiting, speaking with friendly people from the state of Alaska and the private company doing the construction I was about to give up. I have yet to load my bicycle in a car for forward progr...

Camp, Catch and Cook while Bikepacking: Fishing Patagonia + Blackberry Jam (TJN Ep. 13)
Переглядів 4,5 тис.3 роки тому
I always carry a fishing pole with me when bikepacking. It doesn't always see that much use but in Patagonia it would be a sin not to wet a line. The scenery is amazing and catching a salmon while traveling by bicycle is one of those things I will cherish from my trip. If you don't believe me just listen to my voice when I catch the fish... I'm not an actor so that is 100% Karl (fish freak) gee...

Sometimes you learn things the easy way and sometimes you have to learn things the hard way. I chose the later in this episode of "The Journey North." I realize I have lost my rain jacket a few days too late and am quickly soaking wet in a full day of rain in Chile. Wet and cold my spirits were pretty low. My rain jacket had come off the back of my bike a few days previously and there was nothi...

The Carretera Austral runs for 1,240 kilometers (770 mi) passing through rural Patagonia. Because of the incredible scenery it is widely regarded as one of the the world's best roadtrips. It is also on the short list of places to ride for nearly every avid cyclist. A system of ferry crossings early in the route help to bunch people up traveling by bicycle and naturally "cyclist gangs" are forme...
Exploring America's Siberia! 🇺🇸🇨🇦 - Winter Camping
Переглядів 4 тис.3 роки тому
We set off with the goal of making a deep backcountry lake in the BWCA in the dead of winter. Not really knowing if it was possible to make it that far, we took it one day at a time. Storms and rough conditions made the way out even harder than the way in, and every component "adventure" was satisfied. This expedition took place in my own backyard of Minnesota, January of 2021. Pretty cool setup. Ya I have shock forks and was dreading tossing them just to get better water bottle/bag space. Easy solution with tape, kind of ruins the look of the bike, but after 1000s of miles that should be the least of worries. Great video.

For trips like these, it would be nice to bring some candy etc from your own country to give to kids like the little ones ye met here. Imagine what reaction they'd have and how they'd likely always remember the cyclist who gave them sweets

I found that the phone sized solar chargers are crap. I don't think it would work on your lighter weight setup but I use the bigblue 28W foldable panel across my back rack/panniers when riding & outside my tent on days off. It has been working great for charging my battery pack which I use to charge my lights & phone. I have the same Nitrider light & Copper Spur tent(1p) as you. I used to use a Triangia alcohol stove but switched to the MSR Dragonfly. You've got a nice setup.

Simple is good. Take what you need and leave the rest at home. As of 2022 all auto fuel in the world is now lead free and usable in camp stoves. Your waterproof orange bag makes a real good washing machine. An alternative to a suspension fork is to run your heavy-duty touring tires softer.

Hey Tucker, In my experience there is water available a couple times per day for the majority of the GDMBR. The great basin and New Mexico are the two outliers. I think best to join some Facebook groups for the route and get up to date information for those sections for when you ride. I think I carried ~2.5 L for the majority and then a little bit extra for the dry sections.

Oh no! maybe it was different while I was there? this is from a few years ago. I would hope not to promote something against local regulations so please always respect local laws!
